The Amerasian Problem: Blood, Duty, and RaceIndiana University The concept of mixed blood is not a new one; however, it was not until 1982 that an unprecedented policy entitled The Amerasian Act was created by the US government. Focusing on the author's ethnographic fieldwork in South Korea and the US, this article will unpack the assumptions underlying the seemingly religious statement the American thing to do in terms of US policy, where ostensibly scientific notions of race, blood and identity are employed.
